DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR
Are you a proficient and detail-oriented Database Administrator? Join our team and take charge of managing our database systems, prioritising reliability, security, and performance. As a Database Administrator, you'll play a critical role in maintaining the health and functionality of our databases, ensuring data integrity, and optimising query performance. Your expertise in database administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting will contribute to the smooth operation of our data infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with database developers, system administrators, and stakeholders to understand data requirements and objectives.
- Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS) to ensure reliability and performance.
- Monitor database performance, identifying and resolving issues related to scalability, availability, and performance.
- Implement security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
- Perform regular backups, recovery procedures, and ensure data integrity through routine maintenance tasks.
- Optimise query performance by fine-tuning SQL queries, indexing strategies, and database configurations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with development teams to implement changes and updates to database schemas and configurations.
- Stay informed about industry trends, emerging database technologies, and best practices.
- Document database configurations, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Participate in on-call rotations to provide support for critical database incidents.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant work experience can be considered.
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator or similar role, with a strong understanding of database administration and optimisation.
- Proficiency in managing and maintaining relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server).
- Knowledge of database backup and recovery procedures.
- Familiarity with database security principles and access controls.
- Experience with performance tuning, indexing, and query optimisation.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in database administration.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and convey technical concepts.
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) is a plus.
- Knowledge of cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) is a plus.
